KScope12: The Afterglow
I had the pleasure and the privilege to attend and present at the ODTUG KScope 12 conference in San Antonio, TX this year.
It was my first time at a KScope convention and I was blown away by the quality of the event. There were over 1,000 attendees and presentations in various, Oracle related, tracks, including Database, Application Express, Development, and various Business Intelligence tracks.
I gave a presentation on Customizing FlashChart XML in Apex 4. I had a good turnout and plenty of followup questions. My presentation and demo application can be downloaded from my DropBox account. The application is for educational purposes only and carries no guarantees of any kind.
My presentation will show you how you can enhance the Apex Flash charts, by editing the underlying XML. There are many more features available in the XML then there are through the Apex Flash Chart Attributes page. It is definitely worth checking out, if you use charts in your Apex application.
Most of the presentations I visited had to do with Apex, although I didn’t want to miss the chance of attending at least one Johnathan Lewis presentation. Some of the most impressive presentations were John Scott’s Websockets, Marc Sewtz’s Mobile Web Apps, Martin D’Souza’s HTML 5, and Peter Raganitsch’s & Matt Nolan’s Forms vs. Apex.
Another highlight was the Apex open mic night, where people were given 10 minutes to show off cool things you can do with Apex. There I had a chance to show off my Logarithmic chart trick.
On Wednesday night we all headed out to a wonderful BBQ party at the Knibbe ranch, were we got to see a rodeo, fireworks, and a live country band.
The best part of the entire conference, however, was meeting the people. I had the chance to meet some great guys from all over the world, and I hope to stay in touch with them in the future.
Also a big shout-out to Gary Goodman and the team at Hotsos for sponsoring me.
